The Mayo Radio Experimenters Network has an active membership
of people involved in the hobby of amateur radio.

The club holds it's meetings on the first Wednesday of every month at
9.30p.m. - The Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar.

Anybody interested in amateur radio, shortwave listening, electronics, computers etc.
are very welcome to come along.

A club newsletter is published monthly and is sent to each member.

The Club is a member of the Irish Radio Transmitters Society, IRTS,
the national body representing radio amateurs in Ireland.

A SHORT HISTORY OF THE MAYO RADIO EXPERIMENTERS

 


Formed Feb 1997 – John McDonnell, EI6IR, first Chairperson

Oct 1997 – Adopted New Constitution

June 1998 – Don Gibbons, EI5IA, (R.I.P.) Joined. He was the first Class A licensee to join. This meant that the club could get a Callsign – EI7MRE went on the air

1999 Club enters IOTA Contest for first time from Clare Island

1999, 2000 & 2001 IRTS HF Shield winners. (Leading station in the restricted section of the IRTS SSB Field Day.)

Sunday March 3 2002 First Mayo Rally – now an annual event

2002 IRTS AGM held in Mayo

2000 Mayo Radio Experimenters win IRTS Millenium Club Prize

2000 Won IRTS Pat Conway Perpetual Memorial Trophy (For Exceptional service to the Society or to Amateur Radio.)

2000 – Frances Taheny EI5J elected Chairperson

2003 – Jimmy Kelly EI2GCB elected Chairperson

Wed May 21 2003 – Mayo Radio Experimenters featured on RTE1 Television’s ‘Nationwide’ programme

2006 – John McAndrew, EI3JM elected Chairperson

2009 - Jimmy Kelly, EI2GCB elected Chairperson
